Increased Arizona State Minimum Wage Takes Effect On January 1
Proposition 206, the Fair Wages and Healthy Families Act (the “Act”), was approved by Arizona voters on November 8, 2016. The Act establishes a new state minimum wage of $10.00 effective January 1, 2017. The Act also entitles employees to accrue earned paid sick time beginning July 1, 2017.
The Industrial Commission of Arizona has created a FAQ sheet that provides a summary of the Act’s changes to the law and provides answers to many questions about the Act. To view the FAQ sheet click here.
The Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other entities recently filed a lawsuit challenging the legality of the Act. We will monitor the litigation.
