Maintaining Security and Privacy While Video Conferencing
April 8, 2020 – As governments and school districts adjust to working remotely, Zoom and other free video conferencing platforms have skyrocketed in popularity. Remember to maintain security and privacy protocols as you communicate with members of your community remotely.
The FBI reported security flaws in Zoom that allow conferences to be “hijacked” with uninvited users joining in on calls. Zoom has recently enabled passwords and waiting rooms as default security enhancements to protect users’ privacy.
We recommend reviewing the security settings of any video conferencing services you use to ensure the confidentiality of your conversations. Be mindful of who is attending every video conference meeting. If a square on your screen does not show an authorized attendee, or only shows “computer” or an audio phone connection, insist on identification and qualification of that attendee before continuing.
