John (“Austin”) Gaylord’s practice focuses on public law, including representation of cities, towns, counties, and sovereign states. Before joining Gust Rosenfeld he served as in-house counsel to the President of the Republic of Palau, and he currently handles diverse matters including land use, conflicts of interest, public records, construction law, annexations, civil rights, code enforcement and compliance, procurement, utilities, water resources, and litigation.
Mr. Gaylord previously served as an assistant city prosecutor for the City of Mesa, Arizona, and has represented the State in criminal cases in the Mesa, Gilbert, Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Maricopa County Superior Courts. He has trained Arizona prosecutors on a number of trial-advocacy topics through the Arizona Prosecuting Attorneys’ Advisory Council.
