Proposed Revisions to Common IGA between the Arizona Department of Revenue and All Arizona Municipalities Circulated

October 10, 2018 By John C. Shafer III In Legal Alerts

October 10, 2018 – Yesterday, the League of Arizona Cities and Towns distributed comprehensive revisions to the existing, original Intergovernmental Agreement (“IGA”) terms with the Arizona Department of Revenue that all Arizona cities and towns adopted several years ago.

A small group of municipal and State negotiators met for many hours over the course of several months to arrive at the document presented. The municipal negotiators, which included Gust Rosenfeld attorney Jack Shafer, have extensive experience with tax issues in their respective auditing, legal, and administrative areas of expertise. The revisions are intended to both match language to existing practices and provide a more flexible mechanism to make any subsequent changes.

Please take time to become familiar with the changes, as the intended process is to have local councils both repeal its existing IGA and replace it going forward by adopting the revised agreement.
