Tom Chauncey Named Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law Outstanding Alumnus

(Phoenix, AZ) January 31, 2017 – Gust Rosenfeld is pleased to announce that Tom Chauncey has been named Outstanding Alumnus by the Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law (the “College”). Tom will be honored by the College on March 1, 2017, at its Alumni Luncheon.

Each year the College honors an Outstanding Alumnus for his or her contributions to the legal profession, an Outstanding Faculty member, as well as student recipients of that year’s Alumni Association scholarships.

Tom earned his J.D. in 1973 from the ASU College of Law. Over the past 44 years, Tom has been a leader in the legal and broadcasting community. Tom is a founding member and former president of the First Amendment Coalition. He is a founding member of the Cronkite Foundation and a member of the Federal Communications Commission Bar Association. Tom also is a former co-chairman of The National Conference for Community and Justice and a former chairman of the Cameras in the Courtroom Committee.

After finishing law school, Tom clerked at Gust Rosenfeld in 1972. When Tom joined the firm, the firm had 16 attorneys and its offices were located in the Security Building in Downtown Phoenix. The firm moved to the Valley National Bank building, then to the Collier Center, and now is in CityScape. Today, Gust Rosenfeld has 60 attorneys with offices in Phoenix, Tucson, and Wickenburg. The firm continues to maintain the tradition of serving Arizona by providing high-quality, personal service.

“Giving back” to the community has been ongoing commitment of firm and Tom epitomizes that commitment. He has served as Director of Friendly House, President of Barrow Neurological Foundation, Director of St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, and President of Northwestern University Alumni Association of Phoenix. He also supported many others including Homeward Bound, the Foundation for Blind Children, and the Fund for Central Arizona History.

Tom currently serves as the Nominating Committee Chair of the Cronkite School Foundation and as a Board Member of Soldier’s Best Friend, which pairs veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) with Service or Therapeutic Dogs, most of which are rescued from local shelters. The veteran and dog train together to build a trusting relationship and that helps save each other.
